BOLTS LOSE IN OVERTIME

Fall to Revolucion Tijuana 12-11 and are bounced from the playoffs

Anaheim, CA - (February 19, 2012) - The Anaheim Bolts fell to Revolucion Tijuana 12-11 in an overtime thriller at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

With the loss, Anaheim (6-8) is out of the playoffs and Tijuana (9-6) takes the third and final spot in the Western Division.

In a cat and mouse affair, the Bolts led Tijuana by one goal all the way to 7-6. The Bolts even managed a few two goal leads and eventually extended the scoreline to 11-9 late in the fourth quarter, but Revolucion fought back to tie the game at 11-11 with just 2:44 left.

At the 1:42 mark in overtime, Tomislav Colic gave the ball away in the defensive end. Edgar Rivas took full advantage, slaming home the winning goal to put the Mexican side into the playoffs at the expense of Anaheim.

Adriano De Lima had 4 goals and 2 assists and Hugo Casillas struck his third hat-trick in as many games as the Bolts looked to have done enough.

As has been the story of their season, however, the Bolts could not hold on to the lead. As ESPNLA’s Scott French noted after the game, Anaheim has squandered leads in six of its eight losses. In four of those losses, the lead was blown in the final period of play.

“I’m absolutly gutted,” head coach Bernie Lilavois lamented after the game. “The boys fought so hard but, once again, we just couldn’t hold out. We still have two games against Tacoma next Sunday. We are going to come out strong and put on a good show for our fans who have been awesome all season.”

Goalkeeper coach Jeff Tacket saw the lighter side of tonight’s heartbreak saying, “tonight we finally saw guys doing things we had asked of them all season in terms of their movement and willingness to get behind the ball.”

If the young Bolts can continue to put Lilavois’ and Tackets’ tactics into action, then they could very well end their inagural PASL season with two wins next weekend against the Tacoma Stars. The double header will kick off at 1:00 P.M. PST at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena with the rematch slated for 6:00 P.M. PST.

BOLTS ANNOUNCE DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST TACOMA

Anaheim, CA - (February 16) - The Anaheim Bolts will play a double header against the Tacoma Stars on February 26 to make up for the December 18th postponement between the two clubs.

The make-up match will be played at 1:00 P.M. with the second match at its originally scheduled 6:00 P.M. kick-off time at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

Each match is single admission, but fans can get a good deal with the February Fan Pack. For just $15, fans will receive tickets to both Tacoma matches as well as this Sunday’s encounter with Revolucion Tijuana. Fans will also get a complimentary movie ticket courtesy of UltraLuxe Cinemas.

“This will be a huge day for our club as both matches could very well determine whether or not we reach the play-offs in our inaugural season,” said Bolts Director of Opperations, Cynthia Gonzalez. “We will have plenty of fun events planned as well as two very intriguing match-ups on the field. These two teams played to the wire in both games last weekend with the Bolts coming out on top 12-10 and 12-11 so I think these will be rematches that fans definitely wont want to miss.”

PREVIEW: BOLTS BATTLE TIJUANA

Anaheim hosts Tijuana in a battle with huge playoff implications

Anaheim, CA - (February 16, 2012) - On Sunday, the Anaheim Bolts face off against Revolucion Tijuana at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena in a battle for the post season which kicks off at 6:00 P.M. PST.

The Bolts (6-7) are riding a three game winning streak, but must win their final three games in order to have a shot at the play-offs.

“Our playoffs started against Arizona,” said head coach Bernie Lilavois. “In a perverse way, fighting for our play-off lives has brought us together as a team. We now have no excuse to not fight for the full 60 minutes.”

The Bolts proved that in Washington, fighting till the bitter end to hang on for 12-10 and 12-11 wins. “We like to keep it interesting,” Bolts’ forward Adriano De Lima joked after Sunday’s match. “It’s more exciting for the fans this way.”

Any worries that the Bolts would falter after Enrique Tovar left the team to join Syracuse in the MISL have been put to bed with Hugo Casillas (two hat tricks and one assist), De Lima (five goals and three assists), Juan Gonzalez (four goals and two assists), and Tomislav Colic (four goals) all having monster weekends in the Pacific northwest.

Another player to have a breakout weekend was Garr Perrson. The 23-year-old was not only a beast on the defensive end, but at the direction of Bernie Lilavois, he began to jump into the attack, getting his first goal of the season and making it harder for Tacoma to properly clear their lines.

The Bolts will need all their stars at the top of their game on Sunday as they face off against a Revolucion Tijuana (8-5) side that has the upper hand in the playoff race. Tijuana holds the head-to-head tie breaker over Anaheim on the strength of a 14-13 victory in southern California on January 6 and their record setting thumping of the Bolts in Mexico by a score of 28-7 a week later.

“We were missing a lot of players through injuries and suspensions,” Lilavois recalled of the ill-fated trip across the boarder. “We had to bring up players from our reserve and Tijuana were relentless in taking advantage. We haven’t forgotten that and are looking to return the hospitality on Sunday evening.”

It will not be the easiest task, however, as Tijuana needs just one more win to book its spot in the play-offs. The Mexican’s final three games are away to Turlock on Friday, versus the Bolts on Sunday and then home to Tacoma next Friday.

Revolucion is 5-1 in its last six games and comes into the weekend on the back of a 10-1 victory over the Western Division whipping boys, the Arizona Storm. After conceding the first goal, Tijuana held Arizona scoreless for the remaining 57:38 of the match.

The big question is whether or not Cesar Romero will feature for Tijuana now that he is training with Chivas USA. The forward has 32 goals in seven games. That includes two games in which he broke and then tied his own PASL record by finding the back of the net nine times in a single outing.

Even without Romero, Tijuana have plenty of firepower with Gerardo Villa (18 goals) and Guillermo Rodriguez (13 goals) more then ample replacements.

“Every game is a play-off game for us,” Lilavois concluded. “The atmosphere will be electric. We are excited for our supporters to come to the match decked in pink in honor of our Go Pink! Night and to urge us on. To give our guys that extra surge of energy to push past our rivals.”

Bolts Partner with Komen Orange County to raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Anaheim, CA - (January 6, 2012)- The Anaheim Bolts are very pleased to announce a partnership with the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and will host their Go Pink! Night on February 19th, 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena as the Anaheim Bolts take on Revolución Tijuana at 6 P.M. PST.

The Anaheim Bolts will dress in special pink uniforms for the match. The game-worn jerseys will be raffled off at the end of the game, with the proceeds going to Komen Orange County. There will also be a number of booths and tables set up to bring awareness to the efforts of the Affiliate for breast cancer research and programs.

BOLTS COMPLETE SWEEP OVER STARS

Anaheim hang on for dear life to win 12-11
For Immediate Release:
Tacoma, WA - (February 12, 2012) -

The Anaheim Bolts completed a weekend sweep of the Tacoma Stars in extraordinary fashion with a 12-11 victory at the Starfire Sports Complex.

The Bolts came back from 5-4 down to take a 8-6 lead at halftime but the fun was just beginning. Anaheim came storming out of the gate in the second half and goals from Hugo Casillas (who struck his second hat-trick of the weekend), Felipe Gonzalez and and Tomislav Colic meant the Bolts took an 11-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bolts extended their advantage to 12-7 when Adriando De Lima struck his fourth of the evening with a quick snapshot at the near post, but Tacoma came storming back.

The Stars brought out Leighton Oâ€™Brien as the sixth attacker and pulled two back through Stephen Mohn and Ian Weinberg. After the second goal, Jesus Molina was yellow carded for punting the ball away in frustration, meaning the Bolts had to put a man in the box and were down 6-4 in terms of personnel. Miguel Sanchez was then whistled for a sixth foul forcing the Bolts down to 6-3 at the 13:39 mark.

Tacoma took full advantage with Vitalie Bulala scoring 13 seconds later and Oscar Jimenez pulled the Stars within one with just 35 seconds remaining. The Bolts held on, however, with Colic poking the ball away from Mohn before he could shoot off of a corner kick with 10 seconds left to preserve the victory.

The Bolts were already in trouble as early as the third quarter when Rafael Gaytan was shown a red card for retaliating after twice being clipped from behind by Micah Wenzel. Just moments later Jesus Molina went down with a knee injury, but the veteran keeper toughed it out and made some crucial saves down the stretch.

â€œI am so proud of our guys,â€ beamed head coach Bernie Lilavois after the game. â€œWe faced a lot of adversity but we fought as a team and held on for the win. Getting the W the way we did should be a real turning point for our season.â€

The Bolts are still mathematically in the playoff hunt and must win their remaining three games while hoping that either Tijuana or Turlock slip up down the stretch.

The phrase in the Bolts camp is â€œone game at a timeâ€ and Anaheim will start their three game home-stand to end the regular season next Sunday versus Revolucion Tijuana at 6:00 P.M. PST at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

Anaheim survive late Tacoma surge to hold on for 12-10 win

Tacoma, WA - (February 11, 2012) - The Anaheim Bolts kept their playoff hopes alive with a 12-10 victory over the Tacoma Stars at the Starfire Sports Complex.

It was almost the same old story for the Bolts as they raced out to a 6-1 halftime lead only to let Tacoma back into the match with a 5-2 third quarter run.

Felipe Gonzalez scored the only goal of the first quarter and Anaheim looked to be sitting comfortably as the Bolts ended the half with three unanswered goals through Juan Gonzalez scoring either side of a Hugo Casillas strike after Raphael Cox brought Tacoma into the match at 3-1 at the 9:25 mark of the second quarter.

Bernie Lilavois preached to his squad at halftime that they needed to play the final 30 minutes as they had the first half hour, but it was the Stars who came shooting out of the gate with five different scorers to bring the match to 7-6 before Adriano De Lima ended the scoring for the quarter with a wonderful chip from midfield that caught Tacoma Goalkeeper Sean Conlon off his line.

The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter and Tacoma looked threatening, but the Bolts held on for their second consecutive win, improving to 3-4 on the road.

Juan Gonzalez led the Bolts with four goals and two assists while Hugo Casillas added a hat-trick. Mark Lee and Ian Weinberg each had hat-tricks for the Stars.
